An iconic Stamford statue has been reinstated following an 18-month absence for cleaning.

Stamford's Lady Justice statue was lifted by crane earlier this week to return to pride of place atop the 'Stamford Hotel'.

The Lady Justice statue was removed from the Stamford Hotel in late January 2022 for cleaning and to replace the rotting timbers on which she sat.

This week, she has been returned to her old spot on the roof of the majestic old building, shining following her restoration.

The 'hotel' is a grade II* listed building and has been used for retail since 1983. It was built in 1810 as a political headquarters for local Whigs, leaving The George Hotel to be used by the Tories.

It was only used as a hotel during the 19th Century. Since then, it has been used for a range of community ventures, from local shopping and retail to a local dance school.

Over the past 18 months, the Lady Justice Statue was being kept at an undisclosed location in Rutland being restored.

Now, she is back following a whopping £160,000 refurb, but the owner of Stamford Hotel was delighted to see her back and safe for the next 200 years.
