All the fun of the fair
Stamford Mid-Lent Fair returned this week, and the rain did not keep locals and visitors away.
On Monday 20 March, the Stamford Mid-Lent Fair opened in the centre of town.
The fair was officially opened by deputy mayor of Stamford Andrew Croft.
Crowds then sang 'God Save The King', and poet laureate Scott Coe read his poem inspired by the annual event: 'Roll Up! Roll up! (Stamford Mid-Lent Fair)'.
Stamford Mid-Lent Fair has been going ahead for hundreds of years, and is even mentioned in Shakespeare's Henry IV, Part 2 (Act 3, Scene 2) when Shadow asks: How a good yoke of bullocks at Stamford fair?
This year, the fair has been busy for the first two nights, with more fun available on Wednesday 22, Thursday 23, Friday 24, and Saturday 25 March. After that, it will be moving along to Grantham.
Rides cost between £2 and £6, and there are a range of rides available for bigs kids and small.
There are also amusement arcades, food stalls, and games booths.
A range of food stalls, including doughnuts, blended ice drinks, hotdogs and burgers, lead down from the centre of Stamford to Bath Row Car Park, where more games and attractions can be found.
The main fair is set up on Broad Street, with the giant travelling attraction spreading into Red Lion Square, Star Lane, and Sheepmarket too.
