A soggy suspect was spotted by a thermal imaging drone after he dumped his Ford Fiesta and fled into woodland at around 11pm on Tuesday.

Officers on the ground were guided to his location by drone pilots who were tracking his heat signal from the air.

The 22-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of failing to stop, driving while unfit through drink or drugs and possessing Class A and B drugs.

Bodycam footage captured the moment the suspect was caught when he failed to stop for officers on Springbank Drive, in Bourne, Lincs.

The clip shows officers surround the pond near Raymond Mays Way and instruct the man to surrender.

One officer is heard shouting: "Get out of the water.

"I can see your head, get out of the water. You're surrounded."

Despite being cornered, the man appeared reluctant to give himself up.

Another cop tells him: "We're not going anywhere so you may as well get out, get it over and done with."

The suspect still refused to budge from his watery hiding place until the officer warned: "We also have a dog coming.

"We're going to send the dog in if you don't get out. It's over."

The soaking wet suspect is then seen dragging himself out of the pond before collapsing in the undergrowth.

The officer tells him: "I'm not going to help you out because if you pull me in, we'll both be in there."

A Lincolnshire Police spokesperson said: "During the search for him, he was located by one of our drone pilots hiding in a pond.

"Despite trying to conceal himself under water, the drone pilot picked up his heat source and with the assistance of two other officers the man was retrieved from the water.

"The officer who first spotted the man driving erratically is one of our fantastic Special Constables."

The man received medical attention before being bailed pending further inquiries.
