A local broadband provider has said that it will be 'business as usual' despite the company being bought by Virgin Media O2.

Upp launched their new broadband service in Stamford and Rutland late last year and have been installing their full-fibre services across the county.

Upp is a full-fibre broadband provider, bringing its high-speed network to the East of England. Oakham, Stamford and other local villages have been joining the scheme, giving rural residents some relief from slow internet in the quieter corners of the county.

However, in December 2022, Nub News reported that the provider had been forced to sell the company.

LetterOne, the owner of Upp, was reportedly forced to sell the company due to alleged links to Russian businessmen.

Now, it has been revealed that Virgin Media O2 has purchased Upp from LetterOne, the former parent owners of the company. 

A spokesperson from Upp said: "It was announced last week, but we don't know anything about what the future holds at the moment unfortunately, so will continue with business as usual for now. 

"Hopefully everything will be a bit clearer on the long term plans soon."

Regardless, the company is still sponsoring events and community projects for the time being, and local groups are encouraged to get in touch if they know of any groups or organisations that could do with levelling 'Upp'.
