A STAMFORD charity is hoping local supporters will help boost the fundraising coffers of one of its keenest supporters who braved horrendous conditions on a Himalayan mountain challenge.

Semi-retired business consultant Ian Scott, 68, was part of an expedition of climbers raising funds for a variety of challenges and though, because of appalling weather conditions, they eventually ended the climb just 600 metres below the summit of the 6,812 metre Nepalese mountain Ama Dablam he has been hailed a local hero.

He was climbing to raise funds for the Bumps and Beyond charity, based in West Street, Stamford.

Bumps and Beyond supports parents and caregivers during and after pregnancy by equipping them and their children with a full range of donated clothing items, equipment and essential healthcare items.

Ian is a familiar face supporting good casues in Stamford.

Ian, from Yarwell, is well known in the Stamford area also an equestrian sports commentator live and on TV as well as breeding and owning an event horse. He is the organiser of the Burghley Sponsored Ride and several fund-raising initiatives including personal endurance and other challenges.

When on and offline totals are calculated Ian, who is now home after his expedition, has so far raised £2,700 of his £3,000 target for the charity, whose trustees are chaired by his wife Alice.

The money will be used to help fund the charity's expansion programme, which may include new premises as local people are increasingly making use of its services.

If you would like to contribute, you can donate to Ian's great cause via this link.
