Nominations have opened to coincide with National Volunteers Week (1-7 June) and shine a spotlight on those who stand out in their community and go above and beyond to help others.

Last year's SK Community Awards winners illustrated incredible examples of people who had contributed in many different spheres.

Roadside medical assistance, a lifetime of support for the Royal British Legion, childrens' environmental efforts, a school peer support pioneer and work to help community wellbeing were all recognised.

Now the hunt is on again for the awards organised by South Kesteven District Council.

And this year there are two new awards: the Community in Bloom Award to replace the former Best Kept Village competition and an Urban Space Award, recognising urban improvement projects.

Other categories are Inspirational Young Person, Business and the Community, Lifetime Community Champion, Health and Wellbeing and The Neil Smith Beyond the Call of Duty Award: www.southkesteven.gov.uk/SKawards2023.

Cllr Rhea Rayside, cabinet member for people and communities, said: "Over the last two years the awards have enabled us to recognise some truly remarkable people, and we want to do the same again.

"Our message is to look around, see who is making a difference and nominate them. Our cost of living challenges suggest that there will be some very special people who have gone the extra mile to help. Let's give them the recognition they would never seek but truly deserve."

Last year a special prize giving night at Grantham's Guildhall Arts Centre hosted shortlisted nominees from seven categories and award winners received engraved crystal trophies.

The 2023 closing date for nominations is 24 August and judging will take place during September in time for shortlisted nominees to receive invitations for an awards night in October.

A person or organisation can be nominated for more than one award.
