A local pub has won the Campaign for Real Ale (CAMRA)'s Pub of the Season award.

The Railway Inn in Ketton has been awarded Rutland CAMRA's Spring Pub of the Season award.

Rutland CAMRA members voted for winners The Railway Inn, run by Jaime and Louby, over the other two shortlisted pubs the Exeter Arms in Uppingham and the Grainstore in Oakham.

CAMRA is an independent organisation run by volunteers who promote and champion real ale, cider, and traditional British pubs and clubs.

It is considered one of the most successful consumer organisations across Europe. Founded by four real ale enthusiasts back in 1971, today they represent beer drinkers and pub-goers across the UK.

They recently awarded The Lord Nelson, which is now under the guidance of new manager, Amrit Bola, Winter Pub of the Season 2023, which ran from January until March.

Now, The Railway Inn in Ketton, on the Stamford-Rutland border, has been recognised by the organisation.

Chair of Rutland CAMRA, Rich Harris, said: "I am delighted for The Railway upon winning our Spring Pub of the Season. It's a lovely little pub consistently serving great beer including beers from both of our Rutland breweries Baker's Dozen and The Grainstore. The pub is also a real social hub for the village, welcoming to all and we look forward to presenting this thoroughly well deserved award to the licensees Jamie and Louby - many congratulations to them."

The audience were appreciative as the Vice Chair of Rutland CAMRA, Homera, handed the certificate to Louby and Jamie.

Homera added: "The other great news is that the second meeting of Rutland CAMRA's 'Ladies n  Ales' group will be taking place in October.

"The last session was very successful and encouraged us to carry on introducing ladies to Real Ale. The upcoming session will be held at The Coach Inn, South Luffenham on Wednesday 25 October, from 5.30pm until 6 pm and it will last for an hour. We will have snacks and talks and chats and altogether the making of a convivial evening. Anyone interested please let me know by emailing [email protected].

"It will be lovely to see as many of you as possible."

CAMRA's Good Beer Guide 2024 is also out now, and the local team have a page and a half dedicated to local pubs.

Congratulations to Jamie and Louby, as well as the dedicated team at the Exeter Arms and The Grainstore.
