The opening weekend of the 2023 Guinness Six Nations was a tough one for Lincolnshire player, Ollie Chessum, as he and other Leicester Tigers players faced defeat.

On Saturday 4 February, Chessum and five other Tigers players were in action for England in their showdown with Scotland at Twickenham.

The hosts took a 13-12 lead into the break but were unable to hold on and went down to the Scots by six points, 23-29, to come away with just the lone competition point.

Ollie Chessum, Lincolnshire lad who now plays for Leicester Tigers, was one of the England starters who fought hard but could not muster a win this weekend.

Many other Tigers players are representing England in the 2023 Six Nations tournament, with Jack van Poortvliet and Freddie Steward, as well as Dan Cole, Ben Youngs and Anthony Watson all either starting or being used as replacements in the first England match.

On Sunday, a five-point defeat for Italy at home to France in the final fixture of Round 1 saw them also claim a losing bonus-point.

Wales also experienced a 24-point loss to Ireland in Cardiff, in which the final score was Wales 10 - 34 Ireland.

This means that Wales were the only team to complete the opening weekend without any points on the table.
