Stamford will be home to some 'Revolting Children' this week as Matilda JR hits the stage at Stamford Corn Exchange Theatre from 20 - 22 April 2023.
Matilda the musical will be heading to the popular family-run theatre this week, but with a twist - the whole cast is made up of children!
Rebellion is nigh in Matilda JR., a gleefully witty ode to the anarchy of childhood and the power of imagination! This story of a girl who dreams of a better life and the children she inspires will have audiences rooting for the 'revolting children' who are out to teach the grown-ups a lesson.
Matilda was a children's classic by Roald Dahl and illustrated by Quentin Blake.
The book is set in a small Buckinghamshire village, where Matilda is born to Mr and Mrs Wormwood.
Opposing her parents' silly, stupid, and downright selfish ways, Matilda is a prodigy! After learning to speak at 1, she reads classics such as Great Expectations in her local library by the age of 4, devouring book after book and learning more than most adults.
When she heads to school at the age of 5, Matilda meets a shy but brave teacher by the name of Miss Honey, befriends fellow pupil Lavender, and finds a nemesis in the tyrannical head teacher, Miss Trunchbull.
After being bullied at home and now at school, Matilda is pushed to extreme lengths, but finds that she has a remarkable skill...
Can she, her remarkable new talent, Miss Honey and Lavender prevail, or will the hapless and harmful villains be victorious?
