The Stamford and Grantham MP, Gareth Davies, has voiced his support of the Illegal Migration Bill in his monthly newsletter.
The Conservative MP has said that he looks 'forward to supporting' the bill that will prevent those who enter the UK illegally from settling in the country.
It is hoped that the Bill will:
- make provision for and in connection with the removal from the United Kingdom of persons who have entered or arrived in breach of immigration control
- make provision about detention for immigration purposes
- make provision about unaccompanied children
- make provision about victims of slavery or human trafficking
- make provision about leave to enter or remain in the United Kingdom
- make provision about citizenship
- make provision about the inadmissibility of certain protection and certain human rights claims relating to immigration
- make provision about the maximum number of persons entering the United Kingdom annually using safe and legal routes
Mr Davies said: "The Government has now brought forward the Illegal Migration Bill to Parliament to fulfil our promise to end illegal entry as a route to asylum in the UK. People who come here illegally will have their asylum claims deemed inadmissible and considered in a safe third country.
"This is an important Bill which I look forward to supporting.
"For the first time, those who come to the UK illegally will be prevented from settling in the country and will face a permanent ban from returning. The Bill also limits the circumstances in which legal challenges will prevent someone from being removed from the UK."
Mr Davies also shared his involvement with the Spring Budget, alongside another Lincolnshire representative, Victoria Atkins MP
He added: "In the middle of this month, Westminster once again became a hotbed of anticipation and speculation as the Chancellor stepped out of No.11 Downing Street, holding the famous red box aloft for the nation's media ahead of his Spring Budget. This is a tradition going back decades, but this time, there were two Lincolnshire MPs standing with him. As Parliamentary Private Secretary to the Chancellor, I was honoured to be part of it, along with Horncastle and Louth MP, the Financial Secretary, Victoria Atkins.
"The Budget set out a plan to grow our economy by supporting families with greater access to childcare, backing businesses by incentivising investment, and driving innovation to make Britain a science and technology superpower."
