A Stamford-based cafe is cutting down on landfill waste one compost bin at a time.
The Blond Beet, Stamford's 'first plant-based café, bistro and community space', is bringing sustainability to the historic market town.
The team bring weekly changing menus of excitingly flavoured pies, main meals, salads and cakes to the heart of Stamford's thriving Green Quarter.
More than this though, they are passionate about sustainability and have been working with local allotments to reduce as much of their wastage as possible. They have been doing so by collecting their weekly food and compostable waste, and donating it to gardeners who can use it in their gardens and allotments as fertiliser.
Not only does this reduce landfill waste, but it promotes healthy, pesticide free fruit and vegetable growth within the local community.
A spokespersons for the team said: "We compost pretty much everything we can't recycle... paper towels, serviettes, coffee grounds, tea bags, veg peelings, herbal tea leaves, takeaway wooden cutlery, toilet roll tubes...
"And it all goes to allotments in Stamford to grow the next generation of veggies, herbs and flowers rather than ending up in landfill and doing nothing at all. Love it."
The team added: "With a genuine focus on sourcing ingredients seasonally, ethically and locally, we love sharing our passion for all things veg!
"The café has a cosy courtyard and stunning 17th century indoor seating with a great selection of local beers, ciders, gin and organic wine. So come and grab a coffee, share a lunch or linger over an evening meal."
