Stamford in Bloom are getting ready for spring, planting, pruning and prettying-up the historic market town ahead of spring showers and sunnier days.

Stamford in Bloom is a local group of volunteers and gardening enthusiasts who aim to "encourage everyone to take care of this beautiful, historic town we live in".

After winning bronze in 2018 and silver gilt in 2019 and 2022 in the East Midlands in Bloom competitions, the Stamford in Bloom team are getting stuck in to 2023 with a 'spring' in their step and are working hard to maintain their impressive borders, planters and displays in and around Stamford.

So far, the dedicated volunteers have planted an array of blooms, from daffodils and crocuses to primroses, and greenery, as well as clearing old beds and trimming back the lavender to allow it to grow.

Lavender is particularly good for bees, something the group take into account when selecting what to grow next.

The group said: "We have planted daffodils, tulips and hyacinths so far. We are also currently preparing this year's flower chairs which will adorn the fronts of many businesses in the town centre."

"With Spring upon us, there's plenty still to do. Stamford in Bloom are always seeking to welcome new volunteers to help in any capacity. Enthusiasm is more important than gardening experience, just a willingness to get involved, meet new people and have fun in the fresh air.

"If you are looking for a way to meet new people with a shared love of the town and plants, please get in touch either by email: [email protected] or via our Facebook page, Stamford in Bloom."

Follow the group on Facebook for further updates, images, and more as the year unfolds.
