A Stamford resident is heading to Ukraine to volunteer as a medic.

Today, 31 May, Rutland & Stamford Sound interviewed the Stamford man who is heading to Ukraine to volunteer. The team chatted with Jack about his upcoming journey and his plans.

Known by his call sign, 'Jack Bon Holly', the Stamford man will be volunteering in Ukraine with Project Konstantin, a humanitarian aid and front line medevac coalition fundraising to provide humanitarian aid in Ukraine.

Earlier this year, Jack launched a fundraiser to raise £5,000 for a medevac 4x4 to ship to Ukraine.

He explained: "In 1940 the people of Stamford, Lincolnshire, came together to raise £5,000 to fund the Stamford Spitfire.

"While this sort of money won't buy a Spitfire, the Stamford man is keen to deliver a medevac vehicle for the same cost.

This 1940s story of goodwill and giving has moved me to ask Stamford to repeat that fantastic gesture."

So far, Jack has raised £4,235 of the £5,000 target, and has purchased a vehicle to take out. Visit his fundraising page here.

Jack said: "Thanks to the incredible generosity of our donors we have bought our first 4x4, a Nissan Pathfinder, and we couldn't be more proud.

"The vehicle does need four new tyres and a full service, but we hope we can get this work completed in Stamford next week before it sets off on it's journey to Ukraine on Tuesday, 6th June, the anniversary of D-Day. Our Pathfinder will be packed full of medical and other supplies urgently needed by the doctors and medics working to save lives. We even have a prosthetic leg to deliver!

"On arrival in Ukraine it will be painted, armoured as best we can, and fitted out ready to transport the wounded in as much comfort as is possible in such a hostile region. We hope to have it in service on the front by mid-June...

"Thank you to all our donors and supporters! We love each and every one of you!"

The veteran and retired police officer is selling storing, and giving away many of his possessions, should the worst happen while he is in Ukraine.

He will transport his equipment and remaining belongings out in his vehicle.

The team will be providing updates on their Facebook group.

Stamford Diversity Group have also been supporting and sharing his journey, sharing information on their social media:
