Paul Childe-Freeman, an RAF vet from New Cross Road, Stamford is set to run the London Marathon this weekend, 23 April 2023.
Paul will be running the London Marathon to raise money for the Royal British Legion, a national charity dedicated to helping members of the Royal Navy, British Army, Royal Air Force, veterans and their families.
Formerly the British Legion, they are a British charity providing financial, social and emotional support to members and veterans of the British Armed Forces, their families and dependants, as well as all others in need.
The Stamford branch of the Royal British Legion formed a century ago, in 1922. It has about 4,000 members but currently no club building.
Paul aims to change this and support the funding of a new club by raising £2,000 through his marathon efforts.
This effort is made even more impressive due to the fact that, over 20 years ago, Paul suffered a life-changing parachute accident.
The tendons and ligaments in his limbs suffered huge trauma, and now he wears prosthetic supports that enable him to stand and walk. If Paul hadn't endured enough, during the pandemic he contracted meningitis.
This was misdiagnosed as covid and led to a serious infection. As a result, Paul now suffered from epileptic fits.
However, he is not letting this stop him and, having run the London Marathon in 2009 at the age of 47, is back for more this year!
His wife and childhood sweetheart, Julie, as well as his children and grandchildren, are very proud of him.
Can you help him reach his target?
