Local amateur dramatics group, Stamford Showstoppers, have announced their next show, and we are hopelessly devoted!

From the people who brought you Footloose and Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, the Stamford Showstoppers will be performing Grease as their September 2023 production.

Stamford Showstoppers was set up in 2019 and their very first show was Chicago. Since then, the group have jumped from strength to strength and have performed some iconic musicals, including Priscilla Queen of the Desert, CATS, and more.

The iconic musical dates back to 1978, when John Travolta and Olivia Newton-John burst onto the scene, as the romantic leads in this ever-popular teen hit.

Named after the 1950s United States working-class youth subculture known as greasers, the musical is set in 1959 at fictional Rydell High School and follows ten working-class teenagers as they navigate the complexities of peer pressure, politics, personal core values, and love.

The musical follows the story of Danny Zucco and Sandy as they traverse the steps of Rydell High School after meeting and forming a romantic attachment during the summer break.

This show is set to be even more poignant following the passing of leading lady, Olivia Newton-John in August 2022.

Tickets are on sale now. Image credit: Stamford Showstoppers.

The original Musical didn't include some of the Film tracks, but due to the kindness of the rights holders, the group have been able to purchase the rights to those songs and can say this production does include "Grease", "Hopelessly Devoted to you", "Sandy" and "You're the one that I want" - all the classic hits that audiences have grown to know and love across the globe.

The production will be going ahead at the Stamford Corn Exchange Theatre from 14 - 16 of September 2023, including evening and matinee performances.

Tickets are already available online, and selling steadily, so don't miss out.

This is an amateur production by the Stamford Showstoppers. This production may not be appropriate for all ages.
