The annual Battle of Britain Service and Parade will take place in Stamford this weekend.

On Sunday 17 September, the Battle of Britain Service and Parade will be back in the heart of Stamford, a traditional market town with a strong military past and present.

Stamford's Mayor, Andrew Croft, will be joined by members of the Armed Forces and community representatives for the annual parade and service at Browne's Hospital in Broad Street.

The event kicks off at 11am, and will include brass music, a flypast and a service of thanksgiving.

A spokesperson for Stamford Town Council said: "Join us for the Annual Battle of Britain Service and Parade on Sunday 17 September.

"Please be aware of road closures and parking bay suspensions in place for the event. We're working with Lincolnshire Police and the Royal Air Force to ensure a safe and memorable event for all. See you there!

"Please also be informed that the parade will march to the Town Hall after the outdoor service at Brownes Hospital. Councillors and VIPs are requested to make their way to the Town Hall via 'the lanes' as soon as possible after the parade has left Brownes in order for the salute and dismissal to take place on the Town Hall terrace."

The event is hosted by Stamford Town Council each year and members of the public are invited to watch the parade along Broad Street, led by Stamford Brass, ahead of the service at 11am.

Road closures will be in place from 8am until 3pm on Sunday. These will take place in:

  • All Saints' Place
  • Barn Hill
  • All Saints' Street
  • St John's Street
  • St Mary's Street
  • Broad Street
  • Crown Street
  • High Street
  • Maiden Lane
  • Red Lion Square
  • Red Lion Street
  • St Paul's Street
  • Star Lane

Parking in Broad Street will be suspended from 11pm on Saturday 16 September 16 until 3pm the following day.
