Local clock and watchmakers, Loomes of Stamford are getting ready for the Rockingham International Horse trials.
The Rockingham International Horse Trials are on the horizon, set to go ahead on 19, 20 and 21 May in Rockingham Castle's Great Park, which boasts beautiful views over the Welland valley.
With the expiation of the pandemic years, the Rockingham International Horse Trials take place every year in the grounds of Rockingham Castle and are a popular attraction with families, couples, historians, tourists and locals alike.
Many local suppliers support the event, including Fairfax & Favor, a favourite with the equestrian community, and Loomes of Stamford, a local company who prize Britishness and perfection - and what is more British than the iconic horse trials?
As such, Loomes of Stamford are back onboard this year for another riveting weekend of equestrian escapades.
The St Mary's Hill watchmakers have sponsored Rockingham Horse Trials for ten years with the unique Loomes Championship.
The best international riders compete for "closest to optimum" time on the Rockingham cross country - a four minute dash across a couple of kilometers and twenty five jumps or obstacles.
It takes precision timekeeping to emerge victorious from the Loomes Championship, making this a winning pairing.
Over the years the winners have all represented their countries at Olympic level, including New Zealander Sir Mark Todd and the current GB number one Oliver Townend, pictured at the top of the article.
The Championship winner recieves a rare, hand-made Loomes watch. These £10,000 watches are hand made by Loomes' specialist team in Stamford using only British made components.
For those not competing, the event offers a range of themed events for the whole family to enjoy, including a hands-on Horse Trial activity for kids hosted by local charity, Home-Start of Corby.
For the bigger kids and adults, the Castle will be open, with information available about the history of the stalely home, which is home to the Watson family.
Even dogs are welcome, as long as they are kept on a lead and under control at all times. The wonderful Empingham Dog Training Club will be running a 'Have a Go' Agility course, so be sure to come and have a go.
