Stamford residents between the age of 10 and 18 have been encouraged to attend a meeting this Sunday exploring the opportunities open to those who chose to join the Stamford Youth Council.

Stamford Youth Council was founded late last year and is made up of 18 young people who work alongside the elected officials to address local issues that are particularly pertinent to children who live in the historic market town.

This gives the younger generation the opportunity to voice their concerns and share insight with the council into what they and their peers are passionate about.

The meeting to introduce new candidates to the concept of a youth council will take place on Sunday 30 April from 6:15pm until 7:30pm.

In attendance will be Cllr Wheeler, who will explain the role of a councillor and youth councillor and the perks that come with taking on the role.

One of the two newly-appointed Youth Poet Laureates, Aiden Surridge, will also be joining the meeting set to take place this Sunday.

Aiden was appointed, alongside peer, Abbie Blair-Hope, to take on the role of Stamford Youth Laureate in a ceremony earlier this week.

The meeting will take place at the Unity Centre, West Street and will include the free workshop led by Cllr Wheeler.

All youths aged 10-18 are welcome, with the hope that they can make a difference to the local community.
