A temporary pedestrian route is in place at Burghley Park.

From today until Sunday 20 August, those walking or cycling in the park must make use of a new pedestrian route in effect at Burghley Park, Stamford.

This route will be in place whilst the site build commences for the Defender Burghley Horse Trials.

The partial parkland closure is to ensure public safety during the site build and breakdown periods for this world renowned equestrian and social event.

A full map of route and partially closed area can be found at each pedestrian entrance point of the park and the trail is clearly signposted throughout.

A map is also available online.

The team said: "Don't worry! The temporary trail is scenic and takes in wonderful views of the rolling landscape, Lion Bridge, Capability Brown's Lake and Burghley House."

Burghley House, Gardens and Adventure Play are open as normal

Burghley House, Gardens and Adventure Play will be open as normal during these dates with vehicle access via the Main Visitor Entrance entrance on Barnack Road unaffected.

The House, Gardens and Adventure Play will be closed during the Horse Trials event, which is set to take place from 31 August to 3 September.

Defender Burghley Horse Trials Event Director Martyn Johnson said: "In order to meet Health and Safety regulations, we are required to close the central area of the park to pedestrians and unauthorised vehicles during the event build and breakdown period. We apologise for the inconvenience this will cause and would like to thank local residents and visitors for their understanding during the partial closure."
