Want to stand for election? Here is what to do and when

The countdown to polling day for South Kesteven District Council is now well under way, and prospective candidates must register by 4pm on Tuesday, April 4.

Completed nomination papers must be delivered by hand to the SKDC offices in Grantham, so an appointment should be made with the elections team.

They are available to informally check nomination papers ahead of submission so anyone who wishes to make an appointment should email [email protected].

The team is also contactable on 01476 406080.

Chief executive and returning officer for the district, Karen Bradford, said: "Our elections staff are here to help anyone wishing to become a candidate for a seat on South Kesteven District Council or one of the parish or town councils.

"Do get in touch and the elections staff will do what they can to make the process straightforward.

"Please note that completed nomination papers must be delivered by hand; nomination papers received by post cannot be accepted." 

Completed nomination papers for district, parish and town Council elections must be subscribed by a proposer and seconder who must be registered as local government electors within the relevant ward or parish area.

Further details and deadlines for potential candidates are as follows:

  • 4pm Tuesday April 4: Deadline for hand delivery of Nomination Papers to the office of the Returning Officer, Council Offices, South Kesteven House, St Peter's Hill, Grantham, NG31 6PY
  • 4pm Tuesday April 4: Deadline for withdrawal of nomination
  • 4pm Tuesday April 4: Deadline for notification of appointment of Election Agents (District elections only)
  • By no later than 4pm Wednesday April 5: Publication of candidate list
