Ketton Climate Action Group are hosting a free talk on how natural flood management and promoting biodiversity are connected.

Bruce Durham from Harborough Woodland will be in attendance to talk about a range of impressive community projects taking place along the Welland Valley.

Started in 2020 by a small team of enthusiasts, Harborough Woodland has an impressive track record of achievements. Volunteers have planted 34,000 trees, equivalent to 7km of hedges, and helped community groups in five counties. They have also instigated 14 large-area natural flood management schemes and their volunteers have received national awards, with Bruce himself being recognised as a National River Champion by the Rivers Restoration Centre.

Bruce will talk about the impact of this winter's floods and about positive actions which can be taken locally at a time when local authority budgets remain limited and climate change is increasing flood risk.

The event will include an opportunity for discussion on how groups and individuals in Rutland and Stamford can learn from, and co-operate with, the communities which Bruce is working with along the Welland Valley.

By building effective networks across a wider area, there is potential to significantly increase the positive impact of community actions aimed at mitigating increased flood risk and protecting nature.

The talk will take place at 7:30pm on Tuesday 19 March in the Hanson Visitor Room at Ketton Cement Works. Everyone is welcome, especially anyone with an interest in reducing flood risk and promoting biodiversity in the local area.

Admission is free and there is plenty of free parking available on site.
