This week, 15 - 21 May is Mental Health Awareness Week, and the theme this year is Anxiety, with groups nation wide working together to raise awareness of the effects of Anxiety.

Anxiety is something that everyone can experience from time to time. While for some it is an occasional struggle, some find it crippling - and Mental Health Awareness Week is about tackling anxiety in whatever form it comes.

Also supporting the cause is MindSpace Stamford, a local charity who focus on wellbeing and mental health.

They offer a 5 step 'way to wellbeing' for Stamford residents struggling.

A spokesperson for the team said: "Everything we do at MindSpace is based on the 5 ways to wellbeing as there is clear evidence that you can improve your mental health by introducing 5 simple actions into your daily life."

These 5 simple actions are:

  • Connect
  • Learn
  • Be active
  • Give
  • Take notice

These components have been replicated by the team at Burghley House, who have come up with a few ways they might be able to help ease those anxious thoughts and enhance mental well-being:

Connect with nature

Even spending a small part of your day sat amongst nature can relieve anxious feelings. Nature experiences can start from spending ten minutes sat on a park bench watching the movement of the clouds, spotting the abundance of wildlife in the Parkland or having a simple wander around the Gardens.

Keep moving

We know that exercise is a fantastic way to improve mental health. Step into our beautiful Parkland free of charge on any day of the year. Activity can be as intense as you want it to be! A short stroll, a gentle jog or an outdoor workout will hugely benefit mental wellbeing.

Try something new

Learning new skills or finding a new hobby can give you a renewed sense of purpose, boost self-confidence, build personal growth and connect you with others along the journey. Burghley hosts a handful of workshops and classes throughout the year. Or even try your hand at golf – visitors and new golfers are always welcome at Burghley Park Golf Club.

Have a chat over coffee and a cake

Anxiety can feel lonely at times. Connecting with others can help a lot. Pop in to our Café or Restaurant to catch up with a friend or family member, or just come and have a chat with our friendly staff.
