Stamford Rotary Club are looking to engage more with the younger residents in and around Stamford, attracting younger members and hosting a range of regular events for young achievers.

A spokesperson for the club said: "Many people are Rotarians without realising it, as the countless acts of kindness and help during the pandemic have demonstrated.

All Rotary clubs work in and with local communities to help feed the hungry, support schools, maintain parks and open spaces, and champion local charities and groups."

Across the world they also support International causes including the provision of ways to produce clean water, fight disease and responding to disasters as and when they might happen. You can share your personal and vocational skills through activities such as project planning, communications and service delivery. Engaging with the younger members of the community, Rotary hosts a series of annual events to celebrate young people achieving in their field, such as The Rotary Young Citizen Awards, Young Chef, Young Writer, Young Artist and young Environmentalist. All these are annual events and are very keenly contested.

The Young Citizen Award ceremony was first held by Rotary International in 2006 to showcase and celebrate the positive citizenship and important responsibilities assumed by many young people under the age of 25, and Stamford Rotary continue to lead the way in celebrating the local youth.

Club Secretary Jim Guthrie said: "We are looking for people of all ages, men and women, who want to contribute or give back to their communities. Reading the Press tells me that many people are retiring earlier nowadays and they will have taken advice on what they can do with their finances – but how will they spend their time? I would urge them to at least enquire of their local club and give it a try. We are very fortunate that we have excellent clubs in Oakham, Uppingham and three clubs here in Stamford"

The Stamford club meet on a Wednesday lunch time at the George Hotel, while other clubs meet in the evenings, - but they all appreciate enquiries about membership.
