On Sunday 13 March, approximately 1,500 people ran the Burghley 7 race, an annual event for the historic market town of Stamford.

Classed as a road race, the route begins at Burghley Park, crosses the Stamford Town Bridge twice and allows runners to enjoy some impressive scenery.

Roads are closed in the town as runners fly past some familiar local venues, including The George of Stamford.

The home straight sees runners returning to the park to cross the Lion Bridge and finishing in front of Burghley House.

The event is always well supported in the park and in town, and this year was no exception.

One of the biggest events of this kind in the area, it is well supported by local groups, including the 2nd Stamford Scouts, who marshalled and handed out refreshments.

Of the participants, over 50 were regular runners with the local group, Stamford Striders. Club member Mark Popple led the Striders home in ninth place. He was only short of the leading time, held by Elliot Smales, by a few minutes.

Hannah Rounds was the first woman to finish for Stamford Striders and fourth overall with a time of 46:03.

Congratulations to all who got involved.
