An iconic Stamford statue awaits reinstatement on the 'Stamford Hotel' following almost a year-long absence for cleaning.

The Lady Justice statue was removed from the Stamford Hotel in late January 2022 for cleaning and, now that she has been returned to her old, sparkling self, awaits reinstatement on the roof of the majestic old building.

The 'hotel' is a grade II* listed building and has been used for retail since 1983. It was built in 1810 as a political headquarters for local Whigs, leaving The George Hotel to be used by the Tories.

It was only used as a hotel during the 19th Century. Since then, it has been used for a range of community ventures, from local shopping and retail to a local dance school.

Now, a part of that old building, the Lady Justice Statue, remains at an undisclosed location in Rutland, waiting for her time to once again shine...

In March 2022, Stamford Mayor, David Taylor, Tweeted: "Can't wait to see the #Stamford Hotel rejuvenated after the extensive refurb it's undergoing and with Lady Justice returned to her home on top."
