The Gondoliers

Stamford Gilbert & Sullivan Players present The Gondoliers at Stamford Corn Exchange on 12, 13 (7:30pm) and 14 October (5pm).

Curtains open on a sunlit Venetian Piazzetta where we meet two happy go lucky Gondoliers, Giuseppe and Marco, who after marrying their sweethearts Gianetta and Tessa, discover that one of them is heir to the throne of a distant kingdom. Nobody knows which is the King and so true to their republican roots, and until it can be ascertained, they decide to reign jointly.

Their wives are delighted with the prospect of one of them being Queen, but later discover, to their horror, that the King was married, in babyhood, to somebody else! Add into the mix, a formidable Duchess, and her downtrodden Duke, their wilful daughter Casilda, and her secret love Luiz, The Grand Inquisitor of Spain, and a fabulous chorus of lovely Contadine and handsome Gondoliers.

The question is…. which is the King and which the Gondolier?
