Local am-dram group announce Christmas panto as tickets go on sale
A local amateur dramatics group will be bringing a popular pantomime to Stamford this winter.
Stamford Pantomime Players will be putting on Aladdin at The Stamford Corn Exchange Theatre this Christmas.
Stamford Pantomime Players have been performing shows for 72 years, most of them in the heart of Stamford at The Corn Exchange Theatre. They have been very successful over the past few years with two shows being nominated for a NODA award and last year's pantomime 'Cinderella' a record-breaking show for ticket sales.
This popular family panto tells of a great adventure where Aladdin, a poor laundry boy, falls in love with the Emperor's daughter Jasmine, but to gain her hand in marriage he must have wealth. Abanazar, the evil sorcerer gains the trust of Widow Twankey, Aladdin's mother, and pretends to be his long-lost relative.
Abanazar offers Aladdin all the treasure he can find if he will help him seek out the magic cave, and all they want in return is an old lamp! But once inside the cave, Aladdin can't find the lamp and in anger Abanazer locks him in, but with the help from the 'Slave of the Ring' Aladdin awakes The Genie of the Lamp who offers him all the jewels in the cave, which is all he needs to marry Jasmine, together they head home to get his bride.
But there is a twist! Abanazer tricks the Emperor into handing over the lamp and then kidnaps the Emperor and Jasmine and tells her she has to marry him, which of course, she doesn't want to do.
The 'Slave of the Ring' takes Aladdin on a magic carpet ride to rescue his bride-to-be. Will Abanazer end up marrying the princess, will good prevail over evil and will there be a happy ending?
The team look forward to welcoming you this Christmas, saying: "We are incredibly pleased to bring our pantomime, 'Aladdin' to the stage again this Christmas."
Excluding 24, 25 and 26 December, the production will be taking place from 22 December until 1 January at various times.
No need to ask Santa or the Genie for tickets! Simply book online to avoid disappointment.
